Beef Production
Our composite breeding herd traces back to the Calliope Station Herefords, later shaped by Brahman and Charolais genetics, and in the past decade, Shorthorn and Red Angus.
The result is an open-ended composite of around 40 per cent Bos Indicus, balanced against European and British breeds, bred specifically for functionality in a low-input, central Queensland system.
Heifers are joined at 15 months and wean their first calf at 2.5 years of age, then annually from there. Our breeding program prioritises homozygous (PP) polled stock, with moderate growth and milking ability, low birth weight and proven fertility.
We combine objective measurement, including genomics for fertility traits, with raw data and systems-based selection, to drive productivity and produce stock that is fit for purpose.
Our focus is on maximising kilograms of beef produced and lowering the cost of production to increase profitability, whilst enhancing natural systems.
